A lot of people think that only children are inherently selfish: without any siblings and more resources from their parents, it’s believed that they become more greedy and cloistered off from the rest of the world than other people. As an only child myself, I’ve always taken this stereotype with a grain of salt – stereotypes can be representative of a small number of people of a certain subgroup of society, but I never found that this particular stereotype generalized to me. Being generous to people, including friends and love interests has been physically, emotionally, and professionally exhausting and costly in the past, which makes the fact of me reverting to these supposedly stereotypical only child characteristics these days rather interesting Being more selfish, keeping my guard up, and looking out for myself have been top priorities over the last few months. This new philosophy can easily be extended to my sartorial choices as well  – leather pants on campus? Who cares, I adore leather pants more than any other cloth pair I’ve ever owned. Doing a photoshoot on the steps of a McGill building or in an alleyway of the McGill Ghetto (where these pictures were taken)? Whoever wants to watch, gawk, oogle – let them gawk, let them wonder how the hell someone can juggle being a student and pursuing an artistic passion.

Even though Montreal feels as if we’ve been plunged right back into the coldest depths of winter today, the double-digit temperatures of yesterday lifted my spirits significantly in just about every domain of life. Rocking my coated Rag & Bone pants and this awesome jacket I purchased as part of the Zara online shopping launch, wearing these lighter clothes reminded me that spring is (hopefully) around the corner, and a whole host of other lessons to soon learn about.
