Castel Sant’Angelo – once the mausoleum of Holy Roman Emperor Hadrian and later a prison for many who were disliked by the papacy during the Renaissance. It’s also one of the most beautiful yet disturbing places I’ve ever been in Rome, with all of the empty vats that used to pour hot oil over intruders, dark little cells for prisoners, and slits where archers would shoot arrows out from the fortress. Sweltering under the Roman sun, I opted for a lighter combination of my favourite Mackage leather jacket and a light T by Alexander Wang sweater underneath. Knowing I was headed to Castel Sant’Angelo, I guess I was subliminally inspired by the macabre nature of the day and chose to compliment the outfit with my favourite Alexander McQueen scarf. Read into the psychology of my outfit however you would like as I mentally transport myself away from the snowbanks of Canada and back to those glorious days in Italy.
