World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012/2013: Day 1

Hello lovelies! It’s hard to imagine that the first day of World MasterCard Fashion Week (formerly LG Fashion Week) here in Toronto has already wrapped up! After completing a presentation Monday morning in Montreal and flying into Toronto for the evening shows, this first day was an especially busy and eventful one for me.

Due to time constraints, I was only able to attend the Holt Renfrew  and Pavoni F/W 2012/2013 shows. Holt Renfrew’s show featured prominent Canadian designers such as Mackage, Line, Jeremy Laing, Judith and Charles, Lida Baday, Dennis Merotto, Smythe and Twenty Cluny.

Personally, the collections from Smythe and Mackage at the Holt Renfrew show impressed me the most. Girls at Smythe paraded down the runway in cat-like knit hats complimented by beautiful wool coats in kelly green, rust, dark grey and black. Mackage, as always, won my heart over with their seamless integration of leathers and wools into various styles of jackets. My favourite piece from the entire night was without a doubt the open red wool jacket with leather sleeves from Mackage -  I will definitely be saving up my dollars for this piece come this fall!

Pavoni, created by two designers hailing from Montreal, showed an exquisitie collection of evening wear detailed with crystals, lace, and elegant draping complimented with bold red eyeshadow and lips. Set against a beautiful projection background of a palace staircase, I think every person in attendance at this show wanted to have the opportunity to wear one of these gorgeous dresses and walk down those imaginary stairs in their own little fairy tale.

For my stay in Toronto, I chose to stay at the Fairmont Royal York, a hotel my parents and I have stayed at many times whenever we travel to Toronto. This landmark hotel in Toronto is steeped in “old world” glamour and beauty, and is truly the best compliment to World MasterCard Fashion Week.

While I have never been one to be fond of pastels, given their prominence this spring and the gorgeous weather most of Canada has been experiencing recently, I figured I would try to embrace them a little more. My beloved Alexander Wang bag seems to be the only pastel-coloured accessory that  I adore and will wear day in and day out, so it seemed like the perfect starting point for this outfit. To complete the look and keep it edgy, a purple raw silk blouse and imitation leather shorts, both by Aritzia, finished off my first look for fashion week.
